Company History

Over 100 years ago, a store named Urakami was established by Seisuke Urakami in Osaka which marked the beginning of one of Japan's leading food corporations nowadays - House Foods.

Starting with Vermont Curry as one of the very famous products in Japan, we now provide a wide range of products such as spice and curry, prepared food and noodle, retort food, healthy food and snack that are widely accepted in Japan and sell in many countries around the world. Our products do not only bring the unforgettable taste, but also create new eating habit and give enjoyment to people all over the world.

  1. Fukuda Shoten

    1913

    Urakami Seisuke founded a store named "Urakami store" in Osaka.

  2. 1926

    Expanded business to Curry market with "Home Curry".

  3. 1928

    "House Curry" was launched.

  4. 1947

    The Company was reorganized as a stock company and renamed "Urakami Foods Industry Co., Ltd.".

  5. 1960

    The name of the company was changed to House Food Industrial Co., Ltd.
    The company launched Indian Curry, the first solid curry roux in Japan.

  6. Vermont Curry

    1963

    Vermont Curry was launched. The product was advertised on TV and achieved unprecedented sales.

  7. Purin Mix

    1964

    An office opened in Sendai (currently Sendai Branch). Pudding Mix was launched.

  8. 1971

    The company was listed on both Tokyo and Osaka Stock Exchanges. Kukure Curry was launched.

  9. Tongari Corn

    1978

    The company launched Tongari Corn (Corn Chips), achieving high sales in the snack foods market.

  10. 1980

    Company trade mark and logo were renewed under a new company slogan, "House Foods expands the joyful world of home cooking."
    Sales exceeded 100 billion yen.

  11. 1996

    Kokumaro Curry and Hokkaido Stew were launched.

  12. 2004

    The company celebrated the 90th anniversary of its foundation and adopted "Taste and comfort" as its new corporate message.

  13. Vitamin Lemon

    2006

    Foundation of HOUSE WELLNESS FOODS CORPORATION.

  14. 2007

    The company obtained a Next Generation Certification Mark (known as Kurumin) from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
    Retort pouched Beef Curry, Retort pouched Pork Curry, and Retort pouched Chicken Curry, developed as food supplies for astronauts who stay at the International Space Station (ISS), were acknowledged as "Japanese space foods" by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
    A joint ISO-14001 certificate obtained for the entire company.

  15. 2012

    Started to build a plant in Dong Nai province, Vietnam.

  16. 2013

    Celebrating 100 - year heritage.
    Osaka Head Office Premises Completion.
